Hawaii celebrated its second year in the Labor Management Partnership by rolling out eight additional unit-based teams at the Moanalua Medical Center and the Honolulu clinic. By focusing on sponsorship, alignment with regional business goals and just-in-time training, teams made visible strides on such regional goals as workplace safety, patient safety and patient satisfaction. Kaiser Permanente and Union Coalition leaders have taken the time to educate and engage not just team members but the broad base of managers, workers and physicians on the role of UBTs. They also have communicated their three-year strategic plan in meetings with labor leaders—of partner and non-partner unions—to talk about strategy and performance.
