Unlock the Secrets of Performance Improvement

‘What I learned at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’

How do teams get results and sustain them? Is there a secret to performance improvement that almost any team can use? What inspires us to improve our work?

Those were just some of the questions raised at a Dec. 17, 2013, virtual UBT fair featuring unit-based team leaders who recently attended the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) national forum. The annual IHI forum brings together experts from the health care improvement field—those at the front line as well as policymakers, executives and academics—to share their knowledge and experience.

The unit-based team leaders discussed ways all UBTs could benefit from the performance improvement strategies explored at the global health care conference. Also joining the discussion was a recipient of Kaiser Permanente’s IHI Safety Net Endowment scholarship. The scholarship, which allows community partners serving low-income patients to attend the conference, is sponsored by KP’s Community Benefit department.

The webinar was a lively exchange between members of five teams:

  • Santa Clara Women’s Clinic (Northern California)
  • Moanalua Oncology (Hawaii)
  • Antelope Valley Pediatrics (Southern California)
  • Central Valley Optometry (Northern California)
  • Lake County Free Medical Clinic (Painesville, Ohio)
